A group of year 10 students are involved in a project which is aimed at supporting Year 7 students who may be having difficulty settling into school or may be experiencing bullying or friendship issues.
This project has involved 5 days of training to enable a group of Year 10 students to become peer supporters in school. The training was led by Netta Cartwright who inspired us and encouraged us to develop our skills. We enjoyed exciting lively sessions and role play. We then went on to the more series re-evaluation counselling and mediation skills.
There are now 19 trained student mentors in school who youngsters can come to (in confidence) with any upset or concern they may have. If we, the student mentors need to, we can talk to Mr Hargreaves or Mrs Taylor and we can refer any worrying issues raised by a student.
Every Tuesday during Registration we support Year 7 form tutors, we spend time getting to know our form group, we tell them about our Drop in Centre and encourage them to be open about bullying and how they feel.
Our Drop In Centre is manned by student mentors every Thursday, from 1:30 to 2:10 ~ pupils welcome.
