INTERIM REPORT ON THE WORKPLAN OF PEER SUPPORT FORUM NOVEMBER 2001 - MARCH 2002

Work undertaken:

1. Review Meeting with Forum Members:

The meeting took place on 17 January 2002 and was attended by 18 Forum Members. In addition the author of the literature review and 2 teachers (who accompanied young people to their meeting) were also present.

The aims of the Meeting:
To review the Forum's work to date;
To identify what peer support is;
To establish role and purpose of the Forum;
To consider constitution of the Forum.

Recommendations from the Meeting:
Establish an interim Advisory Group;
Revise aims and objectives;
Draw up constitution for Forum.

2. Young People's Group

A meeting of young people identified by Forum members took place simultaneously to the Forum Members' Meeting at the same venue. 28 young people attended and the both groups met for the last session of the meeting for lively presentations and sharing of ideas and goals.

The aims of the Meeting:
Identify how Peer Support Forum could support young people in their work in schools;
How young people can participate in Forum.

Recommendations from the Meeting:
Develop the national website;
Newsletter on peer support written and edited by young people;
Revise national guidelines for peer support;
Awards systems and accreditation for young people;
Regular seminars/workshops for young people.

Both meetings were managed by independent facilitators who have written reports on the content and outcome of the meetings that will inform long-term development of the Forum.
