The nature and prevention of bullying: A Training and Mobility of Researchers project funded by the European Commission, p 178.

‘The Poster Workshop brings together 11 posters from 5 European countries, which form a network for the EC funded TMR (Training and Mobility of Researchers) project on "Nature and Prevention of Bullying". This runs from 1997 - 2001. The first poster describes the network, and the second poster summarises progress on Aim 1, which is the nature and definition of bullying in different languages. The remaining 9 posters present the progress of Working Groups; these comprise representatives from at least 2 teams/countries (usually more) who have worked together to summarise existing research and methodologies in various areas connected with the study of and causation of bullying problems in different societies, using recent theoretical perspectives; the area covered included both school and bullying and workplace bullying. There are further aims in the Project, and this poster workshop presents the progress of the network midway through its operation.’

This was co-convened by Roehampton, London and Seville, Spain.

‘In this symposium we saw how children have the potential to respond pro-socially to peers in distress. This capacity can be enhanced if the appropriate structures are in place. We discuss some of these structures, including befriending, co-operative group work and counselling-based approaches, in which young people are given training and supervision in helping skills and communication processes. Some difficulties are also explored, including gender and power issues, and the anti-social behaviour of some members of the peer group.’
